illuminatewords:

“It all started with an, “it’s been a while since I last saw you,” that propelled the old pair of lovers to meet up in the city for drinks. Slipping on her favorite pair of black heels, she tried fighting the nerves that was forming in her stomach but when he stood in front of her, those butterflies did not allow themselves to silenced. They sat at the bar. Small talks turn into full-blown laughter as they both reminisced about the past. By the way that they looked at each other, anyone walking by could sense the magnetic field surrounding the two. He smiled and she found herself forgetting the ways that he broke her. One drink turned into four and as alcohol flows through both of their veins, they both found themselves slipping into forbidden thoughts and temptations. Bodies were littered around every inch of the club and strobe lights bounced off the walls. But it never mattered where they were or who they were around. Just one look at her was enough to makes him lose control. She knew that look in his eyes, she knew it all too well. And to neither one of their surprise and in the midst of a heated moment, their lips found each other again. The taste of his mouth reminded her of so many things. She remembered how euphoric it felt falling for him and how her heart shattered when he walked way. She pushed him away from her, tears filling her eyes, as painful memories and suppressed emotions made its way to the surface. Needing air, she chugged the remaining half of her drink before slamming it on the bar counter top, and fleeing the club. They were both too much in their own world to notice that a group of eyes followed the pair, curious at their altercations. Outside, she admitted it to him that she was scared of loving him again. But the way that she kissed him passionately five minutes earlier and then stormed off in fear, he knew that she never stopped. And he knew that he felt the same when the sight of her crying felt like a dagger through his heart.”

— How “let’s just be friends,” turned into, “I never stopped loving you.”
